Rise Strong Woman

Telling the stories of women who reclaim their power through entrepreneurship

A woman who can create her own income is a powerful thing.
Rise Strong Woman is a photographic project and an absolute passion of mine. I want to showcase women who have taken back their personal power, built their confidence and changed their lives through entrepreneurship. I know from my own personal experience that building my business changed my life. My confidence grew as I worked with more clients. My belief in my ability to provide for my kids increased as I booked each new photoshoot. My business gave me an opportunity to rise.

Having her own income means that a woman can provide for her family. She can leave abusive or dangerous environments. She will grow her confidence, skills, and financial wellbeing. She can educate her children, and build communities.

But going into business and being self-employed is hard. Even for those of us who have a much easier path. The confidence, support and hard work it takes are significant. I want to share the stories of women who have made this journey. Together we can empower and inspire women and show them they are strong and can rise.

Women refugees

This first phase of the Rise Strong Woman project celebrates successful refugee entrepreneurs.
Despite the huge challenges, refugees are the most entrepreneurial migrants in Australia. Refugees are starting over. They often face a lack of secure housing, physical and mental health issues. No credit history or start-up funding. No income and a lack of English skills. Not to mention the issues of adapting to life in a very different country.
Through entrepreneurship, women who are refugees rise. They build businesses and incomes. They make a place for themselves in the community and contribute to the economy.

Help me tell the stories of female refugee entrepreneurs. Let's inspire others and shift mindsets towards refugees in Australia.

Looking for women to take part

My goal with Rise Strong Woman is to create a series of images with accompanying stories, that showcase the strength, passion, and drive of women.  I am currently applying for a range of grants and fundraising to run an exhibition to share these stories in 2020.

I am looking for women who would like to participate.

If you (or someone you know) are a refugee or asylum seeker and have built a business that you are proud of, PLEASE fill out the contact form. I will get back to you promptly and discuss what I am looking for, and what I can offer you in return for your participation.
